Canberra City Gymnastics Club visits China

Canberra City Gymnastics Club was welcomed with wonderful hospitality when the Club visited Beijing, Foshan, Guangzhou and Hong Kong during the school holidays (25th September to 9th October). Our group of 20, including coaches Derui Qu & Yun Fan, chaperones and 13 level 5 to 10 gymnasts were able to mix gymnastics with sight-seeing, cultural events and, of course, shopping. Staying at the Beijing Training Institute was a cultural and culinary highlight while the gymnastics hall at the National Training Institute was awesome on a grand scale. While sight-seeing, gymnasts and even the adults became accustomed to requests for photographs with babies, friends etc.

Fo
shan’s Golden City Hotel immediately impressed with its Bank of China ATM in the foyer – finances took a downturn from then on and the number of suitcases increased! A couple of days in Hong Kong in the harbour-side YMCA was a great finish.

The Great Wall - always more to climb.
Made it to a local peak!

The group participated in training and a mini-competition at both the Beijing Training Centre and the Li Ning Gymnastic School.

All agreed that the trip was an unforgettable experience.

NSW Country Championships 8th-10th October in WAGGA WAGGA

Canberra City was represented by our Level 1,2,3 and 4 WAG national gymnasts and our MAG Level 1 to 4 gymnasts. This was the first time our junior gymnasts, especially in levels 1 to 3, attended an interstate competition. Understandably, the experience was a little daunting but we believe that the gymnasts enjoyed the experience.
Congratulations to MAG Charlie Pocock on placing 4th Overall in Level 1a and to WAG Jinhee Lee Schneider on placing 6th in Floor at Level 3.
Thank you coaches: Geoff Monro, Jakki Woywitka and Connor Carson.
