President’s Report
The year began with a burglary in January (again) – over $1000 of the Club’s Maintenance Officer’s tools were stolen.  Otherwise the Club has experienced a very positive and busy start to 2008 with programs fully subscribed at all venues. We hosted the National Touring Cheerleading Camp in March, the Special Olympics Junior National Games gymnastic event in April and our own Men’s Invitational in May. I congratulate Club personnel on their outstanding organisation of these events….and all the Club volunteers who work to prepare our venue and to support such events.

We have also hosted our regular professional development workshops for staff – one of which was presented by the WAG National Coach.

The Management Committee continues to upgrade physical spaces with a new deck completed off the kitchen’s external wall. Access from the kitchen is to be completed during June – thanks to financial contribution from Parents’ sausage sizzle funds.

The hardworking Committee has also completed the Club’s accreditation submission – over 40 modules and many sub-sections requiring substantial responses and evidence as part of our quality assurance CLUB 10 portfolio.

National Stream (MAG & WAG) News
Men’s and Women’s National Clubs returned to the AIS Arena in December 2007. Club personnel assisted in the organisation and presentation of the event. Club representative gymnasts showed great team spirit and gymnastic performances. WAG Levels 8 & 9/10 won their events and all other levels returned medals and trophies to their Club. In a historical first, Canberra City was Australian Runner-Up Champion WAG Club! Congratulations to gymnasts, coaches and to gymnasts’ families, who provided their calm support during a month of local graduations and formals.

Sunday 4 May saw the 2nd annual CCGC MAG Invitational, 67 gymnasts competed from 3 clubs. All competitors should be very proud of their results, with lots of overall placings going to our gymnasts. Thanks to all of the coaching staff for their hard work ensuring that the gymnasts performed to a high standard. Special thanks to everyone who donated time or raffle prizes.

New Programs
Special Olympics (SO)  - On Saturday 12 April four CCGC GymABLE gymnasts represented Special Olympics ACT and Region (SOACTR) at the 2008 SO Junior National Games. The gymnastics event was held at Canberra City.

The four gymnasts competed against 28 gymnasts from New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia in MAG and WAG Level 1. This was only the second time Special Olympics Australia (SOA) has run this event.

Congratulations to all of the gymnasts on your performance. You all made the state and club very proud with your very positive sportspersonship.

Thank you to all the volunteers. Your very friendly and professional approach to the event made it the success it was.

SO provides sports training and competition for children and adults with an intellectual disability and CCGC provides the gymnastics training in the ACT.
