President’s Report
The Club’s Annual General Meeting was held last month at Wests. I am pleased to report that our new Auditor commented positively on the organisation. Our meeting was followed by a very nice dinner at Wests new Bistro.
You may have noticed some new equipment – ropes, soft vault and matting – courtesy of Sausage Sizzle fundraising. Thank you volunteers! Also, five large roof vents were very recently installed in the main gym and this almost completes the building program.
The Committee is now looking at refurbishing some of our older equipment as well as improving the outdoor areas.
On a more serious note, please do not leave valuables unattended and please look out for unfamiliar young people walking into the club – a mobile phone was stolen last week.
Finally, I would like to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday season and look forward to seeing you all in 2008 – CCGC’s 30th year!

Mary Hewett

CCGC Sleepover

The Canberra City Gymnastics Club has always been renown for their famous sleepovers, so why did they stop? Well as we all know CCGC has been busy over the last few years with renovations, overseas trips and a hectic competition schedule for the gymnasts. Even with this hectic schedule, the gymnasts certainly hadn’t forgotten and on a weekly basis they begged whoever they could find to run a sleepover.

After three attempts of securing supervisors a date was finally set for the 3rd November 2007.  Unfortunately no matter how much notice is given it turned out that any date on a Saturday night would be hard for a coach to commit to (and lets be honest, who wants to spend their Saturday night with some hypo gymnasts, who never run out of energy!) Well with the saviour of Elyse, the night went ahead with 28 gymnasts turning up for the sleepover.

The night started out with pizza, orienteering, progressed into charades and dance offs and finally finished with sardines and hide and seek.  After all that and not a great deal of sleep we all managed to get up early, clean the gym, have breakfast and go home to sleep again! How impressive is that!

Overall the night was a success due to the participation, behaviour and teamwork of the gymnasts.

Will we have one again, you ask?  If the gymnasts are as persistent as they were last time then I don’t think we have much of a choice!

Club Fundraising

The Party Plan shopping afternoon raised approximately $800 towards ‘travel fundraising’ and was a most enjoyable afternoon.
The Parents Group will be running a Tea & Coffee stall at the AIS Arena during National Clubs Championships and would welcome any assistance at the stall or donations of slices, etc. Please remember to write the ingredients used in any home baked donations.
The Christmas Cup Sausage Sizzle will close out another successful year – thank you everyone!
