Club Colours Members' Newsletter March 2006
Kindergym News Welcome to a new year of Kindergym to everyone, old and new. I hope you all had a relaxing break and that you are all ready for another term of fun, learning and socialising.
I have prepared some information pamphlets for parents/care givers old and new. Please read the information thoroughly as it will help you, your child and he coaches in having an even better time in the gym. I have some great lessons planned for this term and as usual, feel free to include your children in the themes by letting them know what they will be doing in class before they arrive or allowing them to bring a toy or item that they feel relates to the theme.
* Weeks 1 & 2 - Colours and Shapes * Weeks 3 & 4 - Under the Sea * Weeks 5 & 6 - Autumn * Weeks 7 & 8 - Direction (Up & Down, Left & Right, etc.) * Weeks 9 & 10 - Making Music
If you have any questions, comments or suggestions in relation to your child's gymnastics experience please let the administration and the coaching staff know.
We look forward to working together and providing you with a quality and enjoyable program that allows your child to develop great new life skills. Thanks. Naomi Nye, Kindergym Co-ordinator
Classes return for 2006 Welcome to all our members, new and returning. It has been a busy start with many classes full. Parents please remember to book gymnasts' return to a new term as this assists the office to arrange classes and waiting lists.
Welcome to new staff: Mandy & Sophie Mandy Barras, MAG coach and judge comes to the Club from Darwin. Mandy has also accepted the role of Head Coach at our Gungahlin venue, CCGC-RAGE. Sophie Moon is an experienced gymnast. Sophie will be assisting at peak times and with a couple of schools classes.
Farewell To coach and long serving gymnast Anthea Hewett. Anthea has left Canberra to study medical science at Sydney University. Also to retiring level 10 gymnast, Lauren Donne. Lauren and family have contributed greatly to the Club with their participation and volunteer work.
New Code of Points Club judges are studying the new code, which will be used for all competition following Australian Championships in May. Scoring will appear as two values: execution and difficulty value.
Congratulations to Judges Connor Carsonand Mary Hewett who have already achieved a new accreditation to judge International levels 6 & 8 under the new code.
MAG News The Club has invited a group of boys to a new squad, training junior national levels. Geoff Monro and Mandy Barras are developing this group, with assistance from Brian Schumacher.
WAG News Level 7 to 10 gymnasts will be working towards ACT Championships to be held on the 8th&9th April and will be vying for selection to represent the ACT at Australian Championships in May. So far, our six gymnasts have all posted qualifying scores at both a local trial and at a NSW Championships Trial(25th/26th March)..... where their performances earned a few top three placings!!
Extensions Some minor variations to our building plans to do with ventilation and disabled facilities, have now been fully approved. All systems are go, with loans and grants received and the builder, Steadfast Constructions, having already attended to some off-site preliminary work. We will be grateful for your patience once building starts.
Car Park Safety and Club Security Just a reminder that during busy times, the car park needs to be negotiated very carefully, especially as many of our members are very young. We have already had a couple of minor accidents and recommend that you park on the street or in the car park adjacent to ours for drop-offs at peak times. You may not be aware that the Club was burgled earlier this month. Although we have stepped up some security, we ask that parents note any unfamiliar faces wondering in and out of the gym ...... as we are also a dumping ground for stolen bags and wallets. We also ask that parents and care-givers stay within designated areas (foyer) so that strangers wondering in can be more easily contained/identified.
Some items have also been stolen from the gymnast change-rooms, and although we hate to think that the people responsible are in our Club, we would ask that parents check for unfamiliar items coming home.
Drinks Machine Keep an eye out for a new provider. We are hoping to replace the two aged drinks machines with a technically advanced one, which provides better service (ie: dispenses the drinks each time!). The range will include sports drinks and bottled water.
Food Safety The Club has recently become a Nut and Banana free facility. Please assist by not bringing these foods unsealed into the gym. Noting that severe allergic reactions are on the rise, the Club is holding a brief workshop (Saturday 1st April) to help staff identify anaphylaxis and learn how to administer 'epipen'
